The super nova has the comfortech stock that has rubber chevrons to flex w the recoil. The regular nova has a regular stock like a 590. You can mitigate recoil by shooting lower velocity and/or smaller payload shells.

I do own and shoot a Mossberg M590A1, Remington 870 HD, and a Winchester 1300 Defender - all are fine SGs and work well. I prefer the higher shell capacity on the 590 as well as other aspects such as the ambi thumb ... The resulting changes were done by Mossberg and resulted in the introduction of the model 590. The 500 is still a rugged, well designed gun and anyone who says different just doesn't know much about pump guns. It's a Mossberg 835 w/ a turkey choke. I told her it would kick some with that tight turkey choke & be tough to hit a clay target too. Any way she only shot about 20 rounds before baging it up. I bought her the skeet choke for the 835. It shoots a little softer but not near as soft as my Nova w/ the recoil reducer.
